GIVEN TAKES ARMBAND

Shay Given will captain the Republic of Ireland against Poland tomorrow night in the absence of the injured Robbie Keane.

The 32-year-old goalkeeper, who has also skippered his club Newcastle this season, will lead out his country at at Croke Park as they defend a six-match unbeaten start to manager Giovanni Trapattoni’s reign.

Assistant boss Liam Brady suggested on Monday the Italian would chose between Given, who will win his 91st cap against the Poles, Damien Duff and Richard Dunne after Keane was forced to withdraw from the squad with a shoulder injury.
